There’s the Universe and there’s us, Earth. Either there’s no other intelligent life in the universe and our whole entire existence is just a gigantic freak-of-nature,  an aberration — “We shouldn’t be here!” —  Like we’re a colossal mistake that somehow defies the odds!

. . . Or maybe this:  There’s so much life in the universe. We are justified as a people by virtue of the fact that we are one of Many Civilizations. We’re part of something larger than ourselves. We DO belong here, even if it often feels like we don’t know what we’re doing or why. Every day is a blessing. And a miracle.

And, you know, we get fed to the big furry bug-monsters at the end of the movie.
